Punks Kid Rock is the registered name of my American Quarter horse gelding, Rocky. This blog chronicles our adventures together,
as well as stories from my horse past and, occasionally, a tidbit from my non horse life.

About Rocky

The best conformation shot I have of him so far.
Horse Profile
Name: Punks Kid Rock, aka Rocky
DOB: 4/30/06
Color: Fading black with white feet
Breeding: The closest famous horse on his papers (he is on All Breed Pedigree if you're curious to see all of it) is Misters Gold Fever.  After a lot of searching, I found a photo of Misters Gold Fever:
This is Rocky's grand sire.  He is listed as PHBA World Champion, AQHA Superior Halter.  Rocky has Halter breeding on both sides, going back to Impressive.  Unfortunately, both Rocky and his grand sire here are HYPP N/H.   Rocky has not been symptomatic so far, and I hope that continues.
Disciplines: Trail Riding.
Equipment: This is our saddle, it's a Circle Y with a roughed out seat.  The saddle pad is wool.  My bridle is a Reinsman headstall with Clinton Anderson slobber straps and mecate reins.  My bit is a snaffle with a copper mouthpiece which is curved so that it doesn't hit the roof of his mouth like a straight mouthpiece would.
Training: I use Clinton Anderson's method, and adapt it to fit my needs. I'm not a die hard Anderson fan, I will listen to any training advice, evaluate if it might work for me/my horse, and decide what to do with the information from there.
Personality: Rocky likes to learn, brush whack through the woods, and sleep stretched flat out on his side with his nose tilted up like he is dead.  It's actually frightened my barn owner a few times because it can be hard to tell if he's breathing.  He wants to do the right thing, although when it interferes with his plans of not doing much, he can be a little cranky initially.  Other things that make Rocky cranky: leaving food, when the ground is hard for a long period of time, being stuck in a stall for too long, and working hard for long periods of time.  Generally, he's an easy going fellow who likes his job.   He gets along well with other horses, and is always surprised when another horse doesn't want to be friends with him.  Sometimes he needs to stand still and process things for a bit before being able to move on, especially when he gets scared.
Food: Rocky enjoys sweet things in particular.  Of the typical horse treats, he likes apples, carrots, and grain.  He's not a fan of mints or the pop-tarts with the blue frosting, but he loves cinnamon sugar pop-tarts.  He has even been known to enjoy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
